WE ARE OLDER THAN AMERICA
ARTIST STATEMENT
Considering what citizenship—both Tribal and U.S.—means to me and how to bring these thoughts to life through my art is complex. It feels heavy to think about what was stolen from us by this Government and the injustices we have endured and still endure. Everything we have right now, we have had to fight for. We still fight this Government to protect our lands, plant people, animal relatives and our sovereignty. Ultimately, I decided that it was important to use my art to communicate that “We are older than America.” We belong to this land and we have been rooted here since time immemorial.
